Description
Fletcher Community Garden is situated on the grounds of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Library, making it unique as a community garden in Aurora. The garden was opened on Earth Day, April 22, 2016, with 14 garden plots. Two plots are raised beds, two plots of 80 square feet, and ten plots of 100 square feet.
Gardeners come from within the Original Aurora Community. Many are immigrants and refugees from Nepal, Bhutan, Mexico, Africa, including the Burmese Communities as well as neighbors from the USA.
Fletcher holds a garden gathering in the summer centered around creating scarecrows for each garden plot, with Downtown Aurora Visual Arts Students joining for an evening of creativity. Gardeners and students built Fletcher’s art together. Scarecrows were paraded through the garden and then displayed in the garden itself.
